Frequently Asked Questions
What fonts are available for the interior formatting?
We only use commercially available fonts, and while you’re welcome to submit a font if we don’t have it, you’ll also need to provide proof that they are legally usable by you for this purpose. We can try to procure it for you, but this could result in additional charges to your services.
What about graphics?
All graphics must be 300 dpi resolution or better, and you must provide proof that they’re either your design or you have permission to use them if they aren’t.
Do I need to credit you in my book?
Nope, but if you liked our work, tell your friends!
Is my manuscript safe with you?
Absolutely. GCP backs up our files and will not share them without express, written consent from the author.
I need to cancel or reschedule my services. Can I get my deposit back?
All deposits are non-refundable. We are happy to carry over your deposit to a new date or hold it for a future project, but we can’t provide refunds.
Why did you decline my project?
It’s not personal, we promise. It may be that our schedule won’t allow for us to complete the work in the time you need, we may be booked up, or we may have something outside of GCP that prevents us from taking it on. If you send us a query about developmental editing, please be sure to read and pay attention to the genres we do and do not service at this time.
Are prices negotiable?
No.
What if I don’t like what you said? Do I still have to pay you?
Yes, because we did the work. We’re going to be tough editors because that’s what you’re paying us for. You want your manuscript to be the best it can be and that’s the advice we’re giving you even if you don’t want to hear it. The readers will be tougher, we promise, and if you think we hurt your feelings, you haven’t seen anything yet…
Hey, historical fact-checkers, will you check my term paper/thesis/essay/project/etc.?
Absolutely not, but we commend you for trying the whole “work smarter not harder” angle.
Do you take AI-generated work?
No, we do not. GCP is wholly against using AI to write books and we will ask you about it at intake. If you claim not to have used AI and we discover otherwise, we will cancel your service, return your manuscript, and keep the non-refundable deposit. Please be honest.
I paid you to format my manuscript, but I ended up doing more edits. Can you just do it again?
No. We will only do interior formatting for manuscripts that are completed. If you send it to us too early and then have to make a bunch of edits, you’ll have to schedule and pay for another interior formatting. This does not include some revisions — please reference our revision policy.
I opened my manuscript and there’s SO. MUCH. RED. What am I going to do? I should just give up!
It’s okay, just breathe. One more time. There you go. You good? Yes, we know, there’s a lot of red, but don’t panic! We’re here to help you fix everything and get on the right track, and unfortunately that sometimes means a veritable sea of red track changes and comments. If this is your first book, then it doubles the chances of that being true. Writing is a craft and a difficult one at that, and while we understand it’s scary to show your work to someone else, this is how you improve. Don’t give up, don’t despair, but use this opportunity to take in the edits, understand them, and use them to make your next draft better.
Are you taking submissions?
Not at this time.
